Many people ask themselves this question, “Am I really psychic?” hoping the answer is “Yes” but fearing the answer is really “No” and that they are fooling themselves.
Recently I received an email from a Querent (female, age 40, Philippines) who told me she had just finished a three day Tarot course where she was told she had a “high intuition level.” The Querent is aware she can sense beyond what the eye can see and she wants to develop this gift. She also notes she has been told in the past that she has very high intuition. Her question was, “Is my plan to be a Tarot reader and counselor good karma for me? Am I really a psychic?”
Before I share the Tarot reading I did for this Querent and my comments, I want to state unequivocally, all humans are psychic. It is through our psychic centers – or chakras – that we process information. All humans have chakras; therefore all humans are psychic. Some people are afraid of their psychic gifts and shut themselves down or function on a low level. Others embrace the ability and open themselves to learning how to use their psychic guidance system to help themselves and others. There is no judgment by Spirit regarding developing and using -- or not developing and using -- the psychic gifts. Each person is loved unconditionally no matter what choice is made. However, those who feel “nagged” or “impulsed” to develop and use these gifts would benefit by paying attention!!
Over the last several months I have found myself usually selecting either the Hanson-Roberts or Robin Wood Tarot decks to do readings. Upon reading this Querent’s email, however, I felt immediately guided to use the Medicine Cards. I always pay attention to these inner promptings and find that the deck I am prompted to use provides insights that are particularly relevant for the person I am reading for. This time was no exception.
The Medicine Cards embody the energy of Native American spirituality. Medicine Cards authors Jamie Sams and David Carson instruct us that “medicine” is anything that “improves one’s connection to the Great Mystery and to all of life.” Additionally, “medicine” is also "anything that brings personal power, strength and understanding." The Medicine Cards work through the Power Animals, each of which relays messages of healing and insight to Seekers who approach them with humility and intuitiveness.
To answer the Querent’s questions, I drew the following cards and jotted down my immediate impressions (in yellow italics):
| The Answer | 2 HAWK 22 BEAVER 28 ARMADILLO |

She receives messages -- In the Native American system of spirituality, Hawk is the Messenger. Hawk medicine teaches you to be observant to the signals Life is always sending you. These signals are messages and to be able to receive them and properly decipher them is the power Hawk medicine brings. Hawk asks, is Power a talent you have and are not using? Pay attention! This is the medicine of intuitive ability. Hawk is a totem of responsibility because Hawk people see the overall view. Notice that Hawk is the first card of the spread. This shows the Querent’s core nature – she is highly intuitive; she carries Hawk medicine. |

She builds a business. -- Beaver is the energy of the Builder. This Totem counsels that it is time to put your ideas into action and to be sure to build your dreams with love and energy. Beaver is an excellent Totem to assist you in building a business. He will help you stay focused and productive. |

She needs to learn how
to shield herself. -- This is the energy of protection. As you may
know or suspect, strong psychic ability can open you up to energies that may
not be healthy for you. Sometimes it is especially hard for intuitives to determine whether feelings and emotions they experience belong to
them or someone else! Armadillo helps you set boundaries. He wears his armor on
his back and can roll up into a ball and never be penetrated. His gift teaches
you to set up the parameters of what you are willing to experience.
This is especially valuable advice for someone like yourself who is wanting to establish a psychic services business. Medicine Cards authors Sams and Carson suggest that a practical way to start setting boundaries is to draw a circle on a sheet of paper and see it as a Medicine Shield. Inside the Shield, list the things that you want to have/ do/ be/ experience – what and who you want to have in your business and your life. This sets up energetic boundaries that allow only these chosen things to manifest in your life. The Shield energetically reflects who you are and what you are willing to accept from others on an unconscious level. Armadillo medicine will help you “Just Say NO” to people, situations and energies that you are unwilling to have in your life. It is important for you to realize that working as a Tarot reader or psychic services provider of any sort, you are especially vulnerable to the energies of others. Armadillo medicine can help you set healthy boundaries and protect you from psychic invasion. |
Mary’s Comments: As usual, after pulling and reading the cards, I calculated the Missing Clue which in this reading is 7 Skunk. Skunk medicine is the energy of Reputation and gives the ability to attract others who are like-minded and repel those who are not. This medicine teaches how to handle energy flows, another particularly important skill for a Tarot reader/ psychic consultant to have in their toolbox!! Skunk teaches that by “walking your talk” and by respecting yourself and others, you will create a position of strength and honored reputation. Honesty and integrity are critical qualities because they will be telepathically transmitted to and intuited by those who come to you! This is especially important in a psychic services business where word of mouth (Reputation) can play a very large part in your success or lack thereof.

The Reading strongly supports that the Querent is highly intuitive (2 Hawk) and that now is a good time for her to begin developing her business ideas (22 Beaver). 28 Armadillo alerts the Querent to the probability that she will need to develop her abilities to set boundaries and protect herself, which as mentioned above, is good advice for anyone interested in pursuing psychic services as a business. 7 Skunk makes it abundantly clear that honesty and integrity are critical components of a successful business endeavor.
Now to address the Querent’s questioning of whether working as a Tarot reader/ psychic counselor is “good karma” for her, I took a look at both her natal chart and a Horary (chart cast for the moment I read and understood the question).
While it is not within the scope of this Tarot Teacher lesson to fully analyze the charts, it is important to note that natally, the Querent has strong psychic houses (4, 8, 12), planets in Water (intuitive), and points/ parts in the chart that indicate psychic ability.
Interestingly, Saturn, the Lord of Karma and Ruler of her 6th House of Service, is in the first degree of Pisces, the sign of Karma. Also note:
>> The Part of Success is conjunct (next to) Chiron (the Wounded Healer) in the 8th House of the Occult/ Metaphysics.
>> Moon in Scorpio (penetratingly intuitive) is both Ruler of the 12th House of Spirituality and placed exactly on the 4th House cusp, conjunct the Vertex (a fateful point that shows how people see you) and Neptune (spirituality).
>> There is a beautiful Mystic Rectangle in Earth and Water signs which connects the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 10th houses, suggesting that she can indeed create a successful metaphysical profession.
The Horary Chart supports this by showing Part of Karma and Part of Success exactly conjunct (next to) within 1 minute of arc in the 1st House (who she is) with Horary Vertex (fate, how others see her) in the 8th House of Occult/ Metaphysics. Ruler of the 4th House (End of the Matter) is Venus in the 8th House of Occult/ Metaphysics conjunct the Vertex and Mercury, all of which form a Grand Trine to Pluto in the 12th House of Spirituality and North Node / Part of Fortune/ and Mars in the 3rd House of Mind/ Communication. Since Mars is the Ruler of the 10th House of Profession, I see strong indications the Querent is on the right track here, wanting to develop her gifts and use them in a psychic services business.
Blessings,
Mary Hawkins
