"Christine" (a fictitious name) gives a birthdate of November 9, 1961. She does not list her time or place of birth so I cannot cast an accurate natal chart. In such instances, I cast what I call a Divinatory Natal Chart (DNC) using my geographic location for the latitude and longitude. I use the time I do the reading as the "birth time." While not Christine's actual chart, it nonetheless gives me insight into her dynamics. The DNC gives me Leo Rising, Sun in Scorpio and Moon in Sagittarius...plenty of fire (Leo, Sagittarius) to start a business and the passion and dedication (Scorpio) to do well at it.
I mix the cards, asking for guidance and insight on Christine's question. I divide the deck into three piles, one for the Conscious Now, one for the Next Step and one for the Probable Outcome. I take the top card from each pile and turn it over.
| The Answer | XVIII-THE MOON SEVEN OF SWORDS / Futility XXI-THE UNIVERSE |

I am surprised to see these first two cards based on my assessment of the DNC, but almost immediately sense the information I am receiving is quite accurate. Christine is deceiving herself in some way about the new business as evidenced by XVIII-THE MOON. I would not be surprised at all to see Neptune, the planet of Deception and Delusion, making some challenging transit to the DNC. With XVIII-THE MOON in the Conscious Now position, I sense that Christine has developed a "blind spot" regarding her new business venture. There is something about her plan she refuses to see and this card is a strong warning to her to open her eyes. |

This sense of delusion gained from XVIII-THE MOON is strengthened by the card in the Next Step position. SEVEN OF SWORDS / Futility signifies a mental process Christine has either begun or will soon begin to engage in. SEVEN OF SWORDS / Futility is the card of negative expectations. These are the nagging thoughts of self-doubt that creep into the mind, sabotaging a positive outcome. If they haven't begun already, Christine may soon find herself second guessing herself about every aspect of her new business venture. If she allows the pessimistic thoughts to overtake her, they will serve to prevent the very success she seeks. |

The Probable Outcome card is XXI-THE UNIVERSE which signifies completion. It suggests the ability to finally be able to see things as they really are. In the context of this reading, I sense that soon, within three to six months, the illusions or delusions (XVIII-THE MOON) that fogged up Christine's original conceptions of the business will dissolve and she will be able to see the truth of the situation. The business will not succeed and Christine will need to regroup, examine the reasons for the failure, and try again. |
Mary's Comment - After the reading, I cast the transits to the Divinatory Natal Chart and sure enough, transiting Neptune (planet of delusion) was exactly conjunct Christine's DNC Jupiter (planet of good luck, expansion) in the 6th house of work -- a strong confirmation of the accuracy of the reading.
Blessings,
Mary Hawkins
